Our latest addition is the Kemp Manufacturing Company Cold Blast Lantern from 1904-08. This lantern is a true gem for collectors and history enthusiasts alike.
Founded in Toronto in 1888 by Sir Edward Kemp, the Kemp Manufacturing Company quickly became one of the leading tinware manufacturers in Canada. The company was originally formed when Edward bought out the Dominion Tin and Stamping Company from Thomas MacDonald. Later, Edward's brother William joined the company and became the CEO.
In 1899, the Kemp brothers released their first lantern, designed in collaboration with the Defiance Lantern & Stamping Co. and W.W. Chown & Co. This lantern featured the patented corrugated elbows, also known as 'crinkle corners' by collectors, which became a signature design element of Canadian cold blast lanterns.
In 1904, the design of the Kemp lantern was slightly modified to feature a flat crown instead of a rounded one. This change in design is the best indicator for dating a Kemp lantern. The design remained unchanged until 1909 when the company released a completely new design.
Don't miss your chance to own a piece of Canadian history with this rare vintage kerosene lantern from the Kemp Manufacturing Company. Shop now at The Mulberry Lane.
