Functional Hand Tool a Great Addition for Collectors
The Archimedes drill, also known as a fretwork drill, is an old type of drill which works on the Archimedean principle; the drill rotates quickly as the barrel on the stem is worked up and down. This antique Jewelers Archimedes Hand Drill is in great used condition. Although it has no drill bit, these are readily available from hobby/craft shops. It belonged to the engineering father of an elderly gentleman: he recalled that the wood was regularly fed with oil, hence the wonderful patina.
The main body is made from steel and the handle/collet are made from hard wood. The end of the drill, where the bit goes, is brass. This drill measures approximately 25.5cm (10″) in length and would make a great addition to a vintage tool collection. There doesn’t appear to be a maker’s mark.
This Archimedes Hand Drill is not only a functional tool, but also a beautiful piece of history. The beachwood handles add a touch of elegance to the sturdy steel body. Whether you are a collector or a craftsman, this vintage drill is sure to impress. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of the past with this unique and well-preserved Archimedes Hand Drill.
